Greetings, everyone! Looks like it's time to update my intro to this thread. When I first posted it, we had just passed the 100 member mark. As of today we have welcomed 830, and many more to come.

Even if you've been here for a while, it's not too late to introduce yourself. By getting to know one another we can truly collaborate in a transdisciplinary environment. None of us can cross disciplines alone, but together we all can!

In the thread below I'll tell you a little bit about me and I hope to learn more about you. What brought you to TCFIR? What is the focus of the work you are doing right now? And if you are comfortable sharing, what interests and hobbies capture your attention when you aren't working?

I am a lecturer at State Polytechnic of Ujung Pandang. Now I am living in Seoul, Korea for pursuing my PhD in International IT Policy Program, at Seoul National University.
Now I am focusing on Information Security Policy Decision Making as a main topic for my PhD research.

I'm a PhD student in e-Learning at the Faculty of Engineering of the Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona, Italy.
My research interests are in e-Learning, New Technologies, e-Moderating, Social Networking, Personal Learning Networks, Ubiquitous Learning, Liquid Learning Places, challenging Technologies, rethinking Pedagogy, being Design inspired.
Since 2002, I've been involved in e-moderating different online courses (General Pedagogy and Theories of Education; Experimental Pedagogy; Psychology of Education; Processes and methods of Teaching; Educational Technologies; Policies, Legislation and Organization of Teaching; Methods and Techniques of Assessment; School Legislation for Students with Different Abilities) for training teachers at the Università Ca’ Foscari (”Scuola Interateneo di Specializzazione per la Formazione degli insegnati della scuola secondaria del Veneto”), Venice. She has been involved in e-moderating e-Learning courses at the Università Politecnica delle Marche and at the Università di Camerino.
I've been involved in European and International projects as an Instructional designer and a teacher (FSE, Equal, Marco Polo, etc.).

I 've a degree in Foreign Languages (1998, Università di Macerata), a master degree in Technologies and Methodologies of e-Learning (2003, Università di Verona).

Hi,

I am a mid career teacher in the field of visual art. Although I am trained to teach all subjects, I have spent the last ten years teaching photography and commercial art. In 2001-2002, I attended a local technology program for teachers during the summer, where I leared about the concept of PBL's, etc. From this, I wrote a project plan called "ArtPeace", in which I thought that the internet could be a place where my students and others could reach out to one another "virtually" and share works of art aimed at connecting individuals, communities and groups with one another. It was a big idea that was not readily accepted, and I was even told that it was unrealistic for a teacher to do this with her students etc. and so on. I didn't even have computers for my students at the time and even the discussion of asking for support surrounded funding, funding, funding. I even wrote a thesis project for my MA because I felt so strongly about this topic.

Since then, with muh better computer access I have done some smaller projects aimed at connecting my high schoolers to the greater community. I regularly use Wikispaces, blogs, online web pages, email, facebook, etc and so as tools for teaching.

Fast forward to current times and I still feel the same about the internet. I know I am not the only one who had this idea in the past. Now, I know that using the internet as a teaching tool leaves fewer students "behind" as they graduate and move into a world that demands knowledge of and adaptability to technology. I am looking forward to this summer as I am taking classes through Adobe "student voices", a project that resonates loud and clear with the last ten years of my technology life.

When I am not teaching, I am an avid cyclist and occassionally I do sidework in graphic design and photography.
I've recently re-read Galapogos by Vonnegut. He cracks me up.

Hi all. It appears quiet mostly here to me.  Maybe I should introduce myself.

I am a world famous photographer who once did some of the least offensive art nudes of the human figure while learning that the naked figure was intended exclusively for the spouse.  I once used wire communications to share my nude art while seeking feedback from other adult artists before Sergey Brin and Larry page built Google Inc.

 I also did thousands of photos for one of the world's largest Corporations.  You have seen visual art I probably created if you are in the United States and are over 30.  A tiny - tiny overview can be seen HERE.

There you can see the driver's side of my GEO Metro that nearly killed me in 2002.  Back when I already had a very advanced website.

Hi, Curtis. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.  I've been out of town for a couple of weeks, and was really good about staying away from the computer this time. As I'm sure you already know, even on vacation it's easy to get wrapped up with something online and find that half a day is gone before you know it, so nowadays I try not to take the computer with me because it gives me a better chance of actually relaxing. It's like going back to life before computers (back to the good old days--the 90's, haha), but it was a lot easier to live computer-free back then because I didn't know what i was missing. :)

Anyway, I'm glad you've joined us, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you. It looks like your art has taken you to some interesting places.  Which of your projects has had the most impact on you personally?  

And of course, I have to ask a couple of Internet-related questions--It goes without saying that the Internet has changed all of our lives & careers, but for you, what was the moment you truly realized the influence it would have in your life? Do you like to turn off the computer and phone (and Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and walk away from it for a couple of days at a time, or do you like to be connected at all times?  

I'm interested in learning more about how the Internet affects the arts because my main activities are in the areas of business and education, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from you--you have a lot to offer in our group. :)

My art that was once generally commercial photography and generally supported me day to day.  The "ART" project that has had the largest impact on my life since 2002 is my current Arkansas Rural Churches book that is still being done.

My Devil's Den book availability reflects the way the Internet has changed publishing for artists in general.  I am rarely away from my home and therefore the Internet and am amazed at the way technology regarding the Internet has raced on without me. 

I realized the Internet would have a HUGE negative impact on my life when my daughter expressed her outrage at searches for my name finding original nude art done by me in searches at school.  This was realized December 26, 2008 when receiving an outraged email.

I have now sued the company who made my nude art available for searches for my name as well as Google Inc, Microsoft Corporation, the FCC, and the United States.  Google Inc alleged in court that they have spent hundreds of thousands in legal fees to ensure they may continue showing my nude art to minors and misled the court now as well as in the former legal action.

The "Internet" will be on trial in my case if it proceeds.  It may not be allowed to proceed because no judge wants to require the laws on the books now for decades to be enforced.  They may invent a legal reason to dismiss me or deny IFP. The case docket follows.
