ignorance of how to use new ideas stockpiles exponentially • marshall mcluhan

I'm interested in knowing what conferences and events our members will be attending in the next few months. It would be fun to find out that several in our group are going to the same conferences, so that we could arrange to meet for coffee and conversation. And we'd especially love to know if our members are presenting or keynoting so we can cheer for you.

I will be attending the Virtual School Symposium in Austin, Nov. 15-18, sponsored by iNACOL, and hope to see a few other TCFIRer's there (not sure how to pronounce that--maybe we need a better nickname for our members :)

But I would also like to know about conferences in other disciplines, partly because I want to develop a better understanding of what's going on outside the world of education, and partly because I'd like to personally meet some of our members, get acquainted, and find out how we can serve you better, provide a wider range of discussion topics, and start some collaborative projects that are truly transdisciplinary.

See you at the registration table!

I am not sure that this went through This was an attempt to reach out to teachers from the conference since only a few could be funded to attend the conference. See www.shodor.org for curriculum. Bonnie

Hi, Bonnie,

Both your links are working. I wish I could get to this conference--it looks incredibly helpful for math and science teachers, and the free part doesn't hurt either.

I'm curious about Shodor. What does the name mean? The website is pretty self-explanatory, and I was very pleased to see the Deaf STEM section. I love, love, love inclusion.

Thanks for posting this!

Hi Maria and everyone
I'm afraid I can't make it to Austin - hope it goes well.
I'm organising a small one-day conference on Transliteracy in Leicester, England, on 9th February 2010. For more info see http://nlabnetworks.typepad.com/transliteracy/conference2010.html or www,transliteracy,ning.com
Hope this is of interest.
Best

Sue this looks fascinating. I'm not ruling out your conference yet, although I may have to start my swim across the pond now to get there by February. :)

I really like the comprehensive approach to literacy in all its forms. Best wishes in your work!

I am looking forward to the Big Ideas Fest in the SF Bay area because of its interdisciplinary participants and interactive formats.

Cathy,

Thanks for posting this information. I checked out the website and I really wish I could go! I'll have to put this on the calendar for next year. I do like the interdisciplinary nature of the "fest" (which is a great name by the way), and especially the inclusion of the arts. We have members with an arts background in this group, but sometimes it's easy to overlook how the Internet has impacted this important element of our culture.

And I'd love to hear Mae Jemison's keynote and Myra Strober's presentation (Interdisciplinarity: The Four-Wheel Drive Approach to Complex Problems). I hope you'll check back in and tell us about the highlights. :)

Will you be presenting at this conference?

My next conference is Interaction 10 | Savannah -- Feb 4-7, 2010. http://interaction.ixda.org.
This is the annual conference of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA.org).
It is the international gathering of practitioners of design interested in interaction design and related facets.

It is an amazing event each year with great keynotes from the design community and amazing conversations.

If you have any interest on the impact of design on the conversation here, this would be one that you all should be considering.

Besides, Savannah in Feb can be wonderful!
