But real innovation - along the lines of the development of the web browser - needs decades of institutional push and resources behind them to develop. Estrin asserts that we've become too shortsighted and more risk aversive when it comes to developing broad strokes in new technology, and that this cultural shift away from innovative breeding grounds is to our own long-term detriment.
